Library News

There are new books in the library for you to select!  Each spring I am able to purchase new titles at Baker Book House for a discount, and I am eager to share them, a few at a time, in the coming weeks.  Watch for the newsletter and email to read short descriptions, and come in on Sunday mornings to check one out.  You will recognize some favorite authors and some new ones too.  Young readers, there are new graphic novels for you!

New Adult Fiction Books 

The Lumber Baron's Wife by Lynn Austin.  Set in 1873 and present day, this popular author weaves together the lives of women who settled in a lumber town on Lake Michigan; and a woman whose historic home reveals their story.  Learn the secrets of the lumber baron's wife and her friend. 

Remember Me by Mario Escobar A Spanish Civil War novel. Set in Madrid in 1934 just before the Civil War, Mexico promises protection to Spanish children while violence erupts.  Mario and his sisters travel to Morelia where they make their way not knowing if they'll see their homeland or parents again.  Based on true stories of The Children of Morelia, this is a poignant picture of sacrificial love and endurance. 

On Living Stone Salome's Story by Heather Kaufman  A restless Salome resolves to prove herself as a mother to James and John.  She must face her fears when they follow Jesus of Nazareth and decide about this new unexpected rabbi.  

The English Masterpiece by Katherine Reay  Set in 1973 in London's Tate Gallery, a forgery of artist Picasso sets off a chase across the continent to discover the truth.  The career of Lily and her boss are on the line in this high profile art world.  

New Children's and Young Reader Books 

Science Comics Rockets - Defying Gravity by Anne and Jerzy Drozd  A captivating study of rocket propulsion in graphic style.  Meet physicists, chemists, engineers and entertainers.  

I Survived the California Wildfires 2018 by Lauren Tarshis  This is a graphic novel in the popular series I Survived where two teens flee the wildfires after a recent move to California.  

Dog Man Lord of the Fleas by Dav Pilkey  This popular series gives us another high intensity, heartwarming and hysterically funny graphic novel of everyone's favorite hero, Dog Man. 

InvestiGators Ants in our P.A.N.T.S by John Patrick Green  Can Mango and Brash exterminate the city's gi-ANT problem with an ANTY Crime Unit? Read this graphic novel and see. 

It's My Bird-Day by Mo Willems, a picture story book  Pigeon has a birthday, and this loveable bird throws a party with surprise bird guests who have birthdays too!
