Hospitality with purpose: serving with dignity, sowing hope.

The Refugee and Immigration Response Team (RIRT) exists to embody the love and hospitality of Christ by supporting refugees and immigrants who are new to our community. This ministry seeks to provide practical assistance in areas such as housing, transportation, education and counseling services; helping individuals and families settle into our community with dignity and hope. Through the service of the RIRT, it is our desire to see those involved grow in faith and maturity in Jesus Christ.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for assistance, applicants must:

  • Be newly arrived refugees or immigrants (within the past 24 months).

  • Reside within the Hamilton, Holland, West Ottawa, and Zeeland school districts.

  • Demonstrate financial need.

Team Structure

  • The RIRT will consist of a minimum of 5 members, including at least one church staff member and a representative from Executive Elders, Shepherding Elders and Deacons.

  • The team will meet monthly and as needed for urgent requests.

Review and Amendments

Partnerships

This policy will be reviewed annually by the RIRT and church leadership. Amendments must be approved by the Council of Providence.

The RIRT will collaborate with local nonprofits, government agencies, and other churches to maximize impact and avoid duplication of services.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
— Matthew 25:35-36
