A Beautiful Afternoon of Community and Connection

On Monday afternoon, June 23, Providence Church and The Way Church came together to host a joyful community event — the Parking Lot Picnic. It was a beautiful time filled with delicious food, fun games, shared laughter, and meaningful connection with our neighbors.

The purpose of the event was simple but powerful: to connect with those around us and let our neighborhood know that there is a vibrant church presence here — in two languages, English and Spanish. This was a small but intentional step toward building bridges of trust, welcome, and belonging.

We were especially grateful for the support of the Holland Fire Department, who brought a fire truck and a team to engage with kids and families, and the Holland Police Department, who joined us with several officers and their ICE Car Patrol unit, delighting many of the children. Their presence added warmth, safety, and a sense of partnership within the community.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible team of volunteers from both churches, who served with joyful hearts and selfless dedication. Their effort reflected the best of who we are as the body of Christ.

At Providence, we are committed to boldly sharing Jesus’ love and hope with our city. Events like the Parking Lot Picnic remind us why we exist: to be a church in the community and for the community.
