Pastor Bryan Van Soelen
Bryan is Providence’s Lead Pastor and is incredibly excited about his part in developing the ongoing mission of Providence to be a community committed to making more and better disciples. Bryan grew up on a farm near the small town of Sully, Iowa, and after leaving small town life for college in the Chicago area he felt God’s call into teaching and pastoral ministry. While attending Calvin Seminary he helped start and grow a new church in the Grand Rapids area and served there as the Worship Pastor until coming to Providence in 2015. Bryan and his wife Jill have been married for five years and have an infant daughter, Hattie (yes, like your great-aunt’s name). In their spare time without the baby, Bryan and Jill enjoy finding the best places in the area to eat quality food and enjoy creative drinks. Bryan is always in the continual search for the best burger in the area. Send your suggestions, or anything else you want to connect with him about to firstname.lastname@example.org

Director of Ministries
Growing up in South Olive, Braden had aspirations to play professional basketball, although a startling lack of height and talent pushed him to pursue a new course. A graduate of Holland Christian High School, Braden studied at Grand Valley State University before completing his undergraduate work at Hope College with a degree in Secondary Education. History Major. If you want to talk Civil War, you know where to go. In the spring of 2014 Braden re-entered the workforce following nine years as a stay-at-home dad, and in July of that year was hired at Providence as the Director of Outreach and Hospitality. His goal is to help Providence be a place of welcome and refuge; a place that our members will invite their neighbors, friends, and coworkers because they want to share the great news of Jesus with everyone they know. Married to Pam, they have three wonderful and energetic children. As a family they enjoy nature walks, playing in the yard, and reading the same bedtime storybooks over and over again.
Cal Pelon has been director of Facilities at Providence Church since August 2004. Previously he was employed as a Facilities Manager in the banking industry for 16 years. Cal is a native of Holland. He and his wife have been married for 30+ years and have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. He spends his free time bicycling and cross country skiing. “My goal is to manage the Providence facility so that it is not just a beautiful building, but an integral part of our mission to ‘make more and better disciples’.”
Director of Worship
Dean has worked in the worship ministry at Providence Church since July 1998. He had previously volunteered as a worship coordinator and leader at Providence. Dean is a graduate of Calvin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a Fine Arts Group major. Following his graduation he taught various elementary grades for 9 years before his employment at Providence serving as Director of Worship. He still enjoys working with children within the ministry by leading a weekly singing/Bible story time for the children at Lakeshore Little People’s Place, an onsite Christian childcare center. Dean and his wife Sue are enjoying raising their family – two girls and two boys. Together they love to spend time outdoors, gardening, playing sports and going on adventures. They also greatly appreciate a wide variety of music and playing various instruments.
Pastor of Congregational Care
John Hutt, D.Min., BCC is a bilingual pastor, preacher, teacher, CPE trained chaplain and pastoral counselor with extensive experience in a variety of cultural contexts. Rev. Hutt has been married for 40+ years and is the father of 4 grown children. He and his wife, Elaine, enjoy spending time with their granddaughters. “All humans, regardless of race, color, gender or economic class, are created in the image of God and, therefore are to be valued and respected. We live in a fallen world with the tragic and sometimes devastating effects of sin in our lives. Hope and healing can come only if our lives are restored physically, emotionally and spiritually. To that end I have incorporated the seven biblical ‘Steps to Freedom in Christ’ and healing and deliverance prayers into my counseling sessions.”
Director, Children’s Ministries
Julie began as the Children’s Ministry Director at Providence in August 2013. She began attending Providence when she was a student at Hope College, where she graduated with a degree in Social Work in 2004. Since then, Julie has had the opportunity to work with children and families in several different social work and educational roles. She is very passionate about working with children and bringing them the good news of Jesus! Julie and her husband Mark have 2 children and enjoy spending time with friends and family. Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”
My husband, Adam, and I have 3 kids, Rylan, Paisley, and Beckett. We have been attending Providence since 2011. I am a hairstylist out of my home a couple days a week, and the rest of the time I am a stay at home mom.
I am excited about being the Nursery Coordinator because I love kids and think it is such a wonderful ministry to be able to allow parents to enjoy church without the distraction of their young kids. Thank you so much for helping! We could not run the Nursery without all of you, so thank you!
Women’s Ministry Coordinator
I am most excited about creating an atmosphere where women want to know God more by spending time in His Word. I want women to be filled up in God’s presence so that we are willing to be poured out for His work. An oasis is a well-watered place in a dry, desert area. In an oasis, things take root and grow. The water has an affect on the plants and trees, which in turn has an effect on other living creatures. In short, water brings life and growth. That’s what I am excited about for Oasis and for women’s ministry – being watered not just so that we exist, but so that we can in turn bring God’s life to others.
Director of Adult Discipleship
After graduating from Calvin College with a degree in Education, Sue Prins spent several years teaching at the elementary level, before leaving the field to begin a family. She spent many years serving beside her husband in their small business, working as a kitchen designer. In 2005, Sue felt the call to serve in ministry and began serving as Director of Discipleship at Providence Church. Married to Curt for 30 years, they have three children. “I accepted Christ as a teenager, and grew in my faith for several years before I ‘stalled out’. What brought me back to a vibrant relationship with God was learning the disciplines of Bible study and prayer, plus surrounding myself with a small group of godly people who encouraged me to grow. God used that dry period of my life to put a passion into my heart to help people grow in their relationship with God. I’m so thankful that He redeems the past, and that He’s given me the opportunity to serve here at Providence Church! This is a great place to be!”
