What is Oasis?
Oasis is a weekly Bible study for women ages 19-99. We meet Tuesdays in The Loft from 9:30 -11:00, September through March. Each week we begin our mornings by gathering for worship at 9:30, but we always have coffee and a light breakfast available at 9:15.
Want to stay connected over summer?
When spring rolls around, we are all ready for a bit of a break from the routine, right? That’s one reason why we don’t have Oasis all year round. But, during this off-season time, we can miss the friendships we’ve made and the conversations that have challenged us and helped us grow as Jesus’ disciples.
So we thought it would be great to give you and your group a few opportunities to connect over the summer! Once a month, we would like to invite you to Oasis: the summer season. Each month, on a Tuesday evening, come join us for a little catching up time and a little Biblical encouragement. Why? Because we value God’s Word and we value community and we know you do, too.
Each month, we will have a focus and all evening times are from 7-8pm. See below for a few details.
cultivate connections – Community & prayer are important. Let’s keep connected with each other and with God. We’ll watch 1 more video from Priscilla Shirer and talk a little about prayer in our own homes.
summer rhythms – How can you stay in God’s word through the busy summer season? Join us as we share a few of our favorite books and ideas for staying connected to God’s Word through the summer.
AUGUST 14, 7-8:30p
taste – More details to come soon… but you don’t want to miss out on this “taste” of something yummy and a “taste” of what’s coming this fall for Oasis!
Looking ahead to fall?
Our fall 2018 study will begin September 2018. We are super excited to be diving into No Other Gods by Kelly Minter. Kelly Minter is an Oasis fave because she is passionate about God’s Word and she is such a relatable teacher! You don’t want to miss this one!
MEET CHRISTINA KORTERING
(left with the guitar)
Christina is the proud mama of a new little girl, Esther. Aside from snuggling with her baby girl, Christina enjoys being outside – whether it’s taking long walks with her husband or traveling up north to fly fish and relax together. She’s very excited to lead worship at Oasis this year because she loves that it gives us the opportunity to sing truth and reorient ourselves toward Christ – and to do that together in community.
MEET LORI GUERINK
If you’ve been to Oasis, then you know that Lori has been around for a while because she is passionate about what it stands for and she has a heart for the kids that attend our Oasis classes. Aside from making sure all childcare stuff runs smoothly each week, Lori likes to spend her spare time mentoring young women, reading and drinking chai. Lori’s favorite things? “My husband, my girls, my blue Bible, my bathrobe.”
MEET KARIN GABRIELSE
leadership coordinatorA few of Karin’s favorite things are mismatched & thrifted dishes, chocolate from Kilwins and cool but sunny fall days – although after a recent trip she could get into indoor rock climbing as well! She also enjoys vacationing with her family and watching her kids experience new things. She loves Oasis because it provides structure and regularity for being in God’s Word and because she’s seen and experienced how beautiful and vital community is.
MEET ABBY ROTMAN
leaderWhen Abby manages to catch a few spare moments (between work and life with 5 kids), she enjoys reading, being outdoors in God’s nature and running. To clarify, she said the running is more for sanity and quiet time – not because it’s enjoyable! A couple of Abby’s favorites: chocolate and Panera Bread. Something she loves about Oasis is the close relationships she’s developed with other women as they’ve share their lives and stories together.
MEET TESS BOLT
leaderIf there’s a place Tess would love to travel to someday, it would be Italy. However, she also really enjoys heading up to their cottage on Stony Lake with her family. A few hobbies that Tess loves are reading, baking and cooking, although you can also find Tess watching her daughters compete at a dive meet or a soccer game. Something she loves about Oasis is studying God’s Word with other women.
MEET SHERYL WINDEMULLER
leaderA couple of Sheryl’s favorite things are hot, humid summer evenings and sitting in her rocking chair on the porch with a cup of coffee and a good book. She also really enjoys listening to her kids spend time together, especially when they are getting along! In her spare time, you can find Sheryl in her flower or vegetable garden as well. A favorite Oasis study of hers is Jennie Allen’s Chase.
MEET SUE PRINS
leaderAs one of the women who helped create Oasis, Sue has a special place in her heart for it. One thing she loves about Oasis is leaving feeling ready to face the rest of her week because of the time spent with other amazing women, focusing on God. In her spare time, Sue enjoys boating, hanging out with family, decorating… and, of course, coffee first thing in the morning! On her bucket list is whale watching and a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon.
MEET LAURIE SCHIPPER
leaderLaurie likes to spend her spare time searching for treasures at second hand stores or hiking the parks in the area. At home, you may find Laurie painting, gardening or reading. Among her favorite things are candy, especially anything grape-flavored, and spicy hot wings! 1 Peter 5:5-6 is a favorite passage of hers. God takes delight in just plain people. So be content with who you are, and do not put on airs. (The Message)
MEET JERRI BENJAMIN
One thing that Jerri is super excited about is heading to Israel this coming spring on a group tour to experience the land of the Bible! Aside from traveling adventures, when she’s home Jerri enjoys gardening, time with family and a good book or movie. An Oasis study that Jerri enjoyed from last year is Beth Moore’s John: 90 Days with the Beloved Disciple.
MEET REBECCA LEEP
Something Rebecca really enjoys is taking vacations to national parks. Her favorite is Glacier National Park. But this busy mom of three also enjoys walking, coffee with friends, checking out Instagram and listening to podcasts. Something else that keeps her busy is her job as a nurse at Holland Hospital. A psalm that has been meaningful to Rebecca is Psalm 121.
